Yes, what are you building? Think for a while and imagine your life as a big project – what would it be? What would you like to build? A cathedral, a castle, a skyscraper or something else? Will you use your own design or voluntarily follow the others’ suggestions? It will be your, and only your artwork. or else – will you feel comfortable with the dwelling already designed by somebody
“Begin With an End In Mind” is the second of the eight habits, described by Stephen Covey. You are building something already as even if you are not aware of this, family, government and society has designed your foundations already. However, do you need to agree for their scenario?
Suppose you are living in an abusive relationship. I have mentioned already that self-confidence, belief despite all circumstances are crucial yet not enough - if you do not know where you want to go. You can temporarily be strong, fight and win. However, without setting goals for your life you will not be able to escape from abuse and change your life for better. I believe you deserve for happier life.
In your case, let whatever that appeals the best to you – be an anchor which will make you aware that the present relationship is, for example, a piece of furniture which will be replaced soon – in an enormous, gorgeous building or even a housing estate.
However, to build your grand edifice, you need good foundations. These are your values and convictions. thus, just today, list all what can make your foundations rotten. For example, if you want to move on yet sabotage yourself with “Who else will want me?”. Find – who told you that the present partner is your destiny and why. More than that – ask why only this option may be the correct one.
Then find out if the author of this conviction is the authority in case of abusive relationships – has he or she been in one, how long, what has he or she done to move on. What, apart from suggesting only one option, can this person advise you? If you receive negative answers to any of the questions above – this person is not an authority and you can dump the conviction.
Sometimes to build a new temple, road or whatever – you need to crush and drill the rocks, cut trees, drain land before your foundations are suitable for construction. Hence, in order to erect your dream template – first prepare a good place for foundations. And this is your mind.
